- REEDBED MIST - kingfisher

Who can withstand the beauty of the kingfisher? It does not matter how often you see one, this tropical surprise always satisfies. This one is up early, searching for a good fishing spot in the early morning mist.

Alcedo atthis - 100 x 35 cm - acrylics on panel – 2010 – for sale

- SAILING - Sailfish and round sardines

Only a few are left: a gang of sailfish has diminished a once huge school of round sardines.

In this painting I wanted to focus on the bizarre dorsal fin and the colours of the sailfish. The dorsal fin is usually folded back in a dorsal slit to improve its aerodynamics. When the fish gets excited though, its normal dark looking dorsal fin extends fully and explodes in briljant combinations of purple, brown, black and blue. The rest of the sailfish can also change colours, quicker and more spectacular then any chameleon can. Within a second dark backs turn into blue-green, and silverwhite flanks turn into a bronze-brown with luminescent blue stripes.

Istiophorus albicans and sardinella aurita - 140 x 60 cm – acrylic on panel – 2009 – for sale

- TAKING OFF - kingfisher

This kingfisher is taking off to find a better fishing spot. Most of the times you only see the backside of a kingfisher taking off. In this little painting I wanted to show the front side. No distractions, just the sheer beauty of this little bird.

Alcedo atthis - 25 x 38 cm - acrylics on panel - 2010 – for sale

- CRUISING - Male orca

A cruising male orca. I wanted to capture the moment when a huge male like this suddenly glide past you while snorkeling. Male orcas can grow up to almost ten metres in length. Even their dorsal fin and pectorals can grow longer then most people. Still male orcas are mummies boys. They stay in their mothers pod for the whole of their lives.

Orca orcinus - 92 x 46 cm - acrylics on panel – 2007 - for sale -
