On wet spots in the meadows sometimes sounded an lot of noise. Even ear splitting from up close, although only hardly an inch long. The marine toad can weigh up to a kilo!

The land is mainly cultivated here. Still lots to see. A potoo is incredibly camouflaged acting as a tree stump. A pencil thick red coffee snake hide under a fallen bromeliad and this brown dwarf gecko fell on a arm in the restaurant. Dwarf indeed: adult, but hardly two matchsticks wide!

Cano negro is a large wetland next to Lake Nicaragua. Masses of waterbirds step around over here. Pink spoonbills, crested caracaras, snail kites and lots of wintering American birds.

A large american crocodile awaits us athe edge of the park. A pity some boat captains come much too close too often and disturb them. Black Wood Turtles resting on a tree stump. Spectacled caimans are plentiful and easy to see.

COSTA RICA TRIP PART 13: TORTUGUERO LAND

There is only limited walking jungle on the sand bank. Stil I bumped into a tayra (a big kind of marten, crossing my path), howler monkeys (in the picture with young), a bizarre grasshopper, a cute landcrab and strange shielded spiders. A nice boa constrictor crawled along the terrace of the lodge.
