‘Spring squabble’

  • 'Spring squabble', lapwing painting Jeroen Verhoeff

Two male lapwings argue for territory. Their almost spoon-shaped wings make them great aerial acrobats and they can really give impressive airshows. Lapwings look like black and white birds at first glance, but up close and in good light you can see that the dark parts of their plumage actually consist of a fantastic variety of warm-brown, soft orange, reddish, cobalt blue, shiny green and deep purple colors.
