‘Surf hunter’

Only a few see sea bass in full glory like this, just off the North sea coast, hunting sand eels, in a ferocious water and sand storm between floating pieces of sea lettuce. Filming or photographing them in such murky and wild conditions is virtually impossible, but painting what you have seen is also an option. During snorkeling I can often watch them from half a meter away when they are relaxing in the cover of our coastal defenses. They have a striking dark purple-gray color than, but that immediately changes into this beautiful silver-light gray when they swim in open water.
