They may seem a bit ordinary at first glance, but when you get to know them better they turn out to be beautiful creatures. Their cheerful singing and beautiful subtle brown-red and blue-gray colored feathers are fantastic. When I discussed with the client which bird we would choose for a commissioned painting, I pointed out the singing hedge sparrow in the garden. She was immediately sold, especially when I proposed to have him sing in a blooming blackthorn, that beautiful and landscape-defining small tree that we don’t see enough of in our nature reserves.
