• I spooked this Montpellier snake and it immediatly seeked refuge in my trousers, where it went all the way up. There, it curled up against my private parts and decided to stay put. Now you see, montpellier snakes are pretty venomous, but they are also rear-fanged, which means you are only in danger when a small part of yourself might accidentally wind up in the back of their mouth… Well, it took many minutes until I had manipulated her, very, very gently, down again. At that moment I took this picture, which spooked her again and made her also flee again to that same warm, cosy and safe place as before. Lucky for me, I was alone. At least, I hope I was, for it must have been a strange sight seeing this tourist manipulating and photographing something in his pants with that look of unease and surprise on his face…
